Blepharoplasty (eye lids)
Blepharoplasty can be both a functional or cosmetic surgical procedure intended to reshape the upper eyelid or lower eyelid by the removal and/or repositioning of excess tissue as well as by reinforcement of surrounding muscles and tendons. When an advanced amount of upper eyelid skin is present, the skin may hang over the eyelashes and cause loss of peripheral vision. The outer and upper parts of the visual field are most commonly affected and the condition may cause difficulty with activities such as driving or reading. In this circumstance, upper eyelid blepharoplasty is performed to improve peripheral vision. Blepharoplasty only corrects vision loss due to excess skin, muscle and fat that blocks the eye. Patients with a less severe amount of excess skin may have a similar procedure performed for cosmetic reasons.
Lower eyelid blepharoplasty is almost always done for cosmetic reasons, to improve puffy lower eyelid “bags” and reduce the wrinkling of skin. Blepharoplasty is performed through external incisions made along the natural skin lines of the eyelids, such as the creases of the upper lids and below the lashes of the lower lids, or from the inside surface of the lower eyelid.
Botulinum injections, also referred to as botox injections, is a temporary nonsurgical procedure to relax wrinkles around the eyes, forehead, and brow. This commonly-performed and popular minimally-invasive procedure uses a FDA approved medication delivered via localized, pinpoint injections. Patients notice a clear improvement in these wrinkles within 3 days.
This procedure is ideal for the patient with minimal wrinkles and crows feet. The wrinkles that respond best to Botulinum treatment are those that are caused by muscles, such as from frowning or squinting. The effect lasts an average of four months.
JUVÉDERM® is an injectable gel made from hyaluronic acid. Hyaluronic acid is a naturally-occurring substance in the body that is used by our doctors to soften the deep folds and lines in the face. It plumps areas of the face to create a more youthful appearance.
Over time, areas of the face naturally lose volume due to the aging process, causing you to lose that youthful look. The pulled-back look of traditional facelifts is fast becoming a thing of the past. Instead, more and more patients are using JUVÉDERM® injectable filler to add volume back to the face.
JUVÉDERM® is injected into the lines and hollows of the face for wrinkle removal that leaves the face smooth and supple. This safe, reliable anti-wrinkle treatment can be injected to create volume in the lips, naso-labial folds, corners of the mouth, tear troughs and more.
