Popular Options for Male Body Contouring

Why are men turning to body contouring?

As society places a high value on looking young and fit, men of all ages are turning to cosmetic plastic surgery.  Achieving a flatter abdomen and chest are two of the most popular goals we see in our clinic.

How does liposuction correct problem areas for men?

As men age, areas of fat tend to accumulate and can be isolated around the abdomen, flanks or love handles, and breast areas. Men can improve their body’s appearance with liposuction, especially in those isolated areas that do not respond to diet and exercise. Men who have good skin elasticity and only a moderate amount of excess abdominal fat will see the most benefit from liposuction.

Why might men get a tummy tuck instead of liposuction?

When men have excess abdominal skin, (usually the result of weight loss, or loose abdominal muscles) an abdominoplasty or “tummy tuck” is likely the appropriate surgical procedure. In a tummy tuck, the aim is to get rid of excess fat and sagging skin in the abdomen and to tighten the abdominal wall where muscles have weakened. The incision is made in the lower part of the abdomen, typically below the belt line. Some men may combine this with liposuction to the waist to improve the appearance of love handles

What are body contouring options for the chest?

Gynecomastia, a condition of over-developed or enlarged breasts in men, is common in men of any age. Gynecomastia is characterized by localized fat, excess glandular tissue development, sometimes excess breast skin, and can be on one or both sides of the chest. Breast reduction surgery reduces the breast size, flattening and enhancing the chest contours.

Ask your plastic surgeon specific questions about what your recovery will be like, including:

  • What medications will I need to take?
  • Will I have stitches, and when will they be removed?
  • When can I exercise again?
  • Do I need to come back for a follow-up visit?
